The whole thing in five lines.
The game is free to play. There is one optional purchase and it is cosmetic, so nobody can buy their way to a better chance of winning. Your progress lives in your own browser, so clearing your browser data loses it. The game comes with no promises that it is perfect, because one person made it. If something goes wrong, message me and I will sort it out.
Everything below is the same thing said carefully. By playing TEWGO you are agreeing to it, so if you do not, the answer is simply not to play.
Who you are dealing with
TEWGO is made by Rick Tew. Purchases are charged by Tews Inc, Rick's company, which is also the company behind his other games and sites. On a card statement it appears as TEWS INC. followed by what you bought, so a purchase reads TEWS INC.* TEWGO and a tip reads TEWS INC.* TEWGO TIP. If you are looking at your statement wondering what that is, that is this. "I" and "me" mean Rick. "TEWGO" means the website and browser game at playtewgo.com and the TEWGO app for iPhone and iPad.
What you get, and what it costs
The browser game is free and complete. Every rule, every difficulty level, the post-game review and the full ladder of worlds are all playable without paying anything. Worlds, figures, boards, backgrounds, soundtracks and the Gold colours are earned by finishing games, win or lose.
The browser game is currently marked Beta. That is honest labelling rather than a disclaimer: it is played and tested, but it is newer than the iOS app and things move.
There is also an optional tip on the home page, for anyone who wants to buy me a coffee. It is entirely optional, it unlocks nothing, and it changes nothing about the game. It is not a way to buy anything and should not be treated as one.
The iPhone and iPad app is sold through Apple's App Store under Apple's own terms.
The one paid thing
Unlock All Worlds, $2.59, paid once. It opens every world and everything inside them immediately, so you can skip the earning if you would rather not do it.
It is cosmetic and that is a promise, not a marketing line. It cannot and does not touch the board, the rules, the AI's difficulty, your odds of winning, or anything that decides a game. It changes what you can look at and listen to. Everything it opens is also reachable for free by playing, and the Gold colours stay earned by winning even after you buy it.
It is a single payment and it is not refundable, for the reasons in the refunds section below. The price is set in US dollars and payment is taken by Stripe on Stripe's own pages, so your card details never reach me. If you are outside the United States, Stripe may show and charge a converted amount in your own currency, and your bank may apply its own exchange rate or a foreign transaction fee on top. The amount Stripe shows you before you confirm is the amount Stripe charges.
Your unlock code, and why it matters
After you pay you are shown a code that looks like TEWGO-XXXX-XXXX. Save it. Put it in your notes app, or email it to yourself.
Because the browser game has no accounts, that code is the only way to put the unlock back on another browser, another device, or on the same browser after you clear its data. It is not tied to your email, on purpose, so that nobody can go looking for other people's purchases by guessing addresses.
If you lose it, message me with the email address you used to pay and I will look it up and send it to you. This is a manual, human step, so give me a day or two.
Refunds, and what to do instead
This is a one-time purchase and it is not refundable. It unlocks everything the instant it goes through, so there is nothing to hand back. Please be sure before you buy. You lose nothing by waiting, because every single thing it opens can also be earned for free just by playing.
If it did not work, that is not a refund question, it is a support question, and it is one I want to hear about. If you paid and the unlock did not apply, or your code will not restore, or you cannot find your code, message me and I will get it working. Tell me the email you paid with.
If I genuinely cannot get it working for you, I will refund you. A game that took your money and gave you nothing back is not something I am willing to keep the money for, and no wording on this page changes that.
The same goes for a tip. A tip is a thank you rather than a purchase: it unlocks nothing, so there is nothing to be unhappy with and nothing to give back. Please only tip if you want to.
Purchases made inside the iPhone and iPad app are handled by Apple, so anything there goes through Apple's own process rather than through me.
Wherever you live, none of this removes a refund right your local consumer law already gives you. In some countries, including across the EU and the UK, buyers have a short cancellation right for digital purchases unless they agree at checkout to immediate access and to giving that right up. If your law gives you something this page does not, your law wins.
Your progress lives on your device
This is the most important practical thing on this page, so it gets its own section.
The browser game has no accounts and no cloud save. Your record, your unlocked worlds, your settings and your game in progress are stored in your own browser and nowhere else. That means all of the following will lose your progress, and none of them are recoverable by me:
- Clearing your browsing data or site data for playtewgo.com.
- Playing in a private or incognito window and then closing it.
- Switching to a different browser, or to a different device.
- A browser cleaning up storage on its own, which some do when disk space runs low.
Your unlock is the one part that survives all of this, because you have the code. Everything else is a game record, so please treat it as a game record and not as something irreplaceable.
Playing fair
Short list, all of it obvious:
- Do not attack, overload or try to break the site or the small servers behind it.
- Do not try to forge, share, sell or brute-force unlock codes. It is a $2.59 game; it is not worth either of our time.
- Do not use the contact form to send bulk, automated or abusive messages. A real person reads them.
- Do not repackage, resell or republish the game as your own.
If someone does any of this I can block access, and for the unlock I can cancel a code that was obtained dishonestly. Editing your own browser storage to fake an unlock only fakes the cosmetics for you; the server is the only thing that decides what was really paid for.
What belongs to whom
The TEWGO name, the artwork, the music, the code and the design of the game are mine. You are welcome to play them, screenshot them and share the victory cards the game makes for you. You are not licensed to copy the game itself or pass it off as yours.
The underlying idea, a five-in-a-row game with custodial pair capture, is an old and public one. TEWGO is my version of it. Nobody owns the rules, and I make no claim over them.
No promises about perfection
TEWGO is provided as it is. I do not promise it will be free of bugs, available without interruption, or unchanged in future. I add things, remove things and rebalance the AI, and I try to say so honestly on the Features and Updates page.
If the site is down, if a feature disappears, or if the game does something daft, the realistic remedy is that you tell me and I fix it. If the paid unlock genuinely cannot be made to work for you, the remedy is the one in the refunds section above. Beyond that, and to the extent the law where you live allows it, I am not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and any liability I do have is limited to the amount you actually paid me, which for almost everybody is nothing.
Nothing here tries to exclude liability that cannot legally be excluded, such as for death, personal injury or fraud.
Privacy
What is stored, what is not, and the two places real information exists are all set out in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms. The short version is: no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and nothing sold to anyone.
Which law applies
TEWGO is operated from the United States, and these terms are governed by the law of the United States and of the state in which I am resident. That is where any dispute would formally be heard.
None of that removes the rights your own country's consumer law gives you, which in many places cannot be signed away, and none of it is meant to. I am one person and this is a $2.59 board game. If something has gone wrong I would far rather hear about it and fix it than argue about it, so please message me first. That has worked every time so far.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the new version is posted here with a new date at the top. Carrying on playing after that means the new version applies. A change that genuinely affects what you have paid for would be said plainly rather than slipped in.
